Book Binding

If you are interested in the fine art of bookmaking then look no further than Bowling Green State University's School of Art. The university offers an intensive artist style workshop which introduces students to the fine art of bookmaking through hands-on activities. The course is structured to increase the diversity of classes that the School of Art can offer to its students by providing a unique environment for mixed media work across disciplines.

Professor Janet Ballweg teaches the two week run of the class, which operates similar to an artist workshop. Class time runs from 9am - 4pm Monday through Thursday and then ends with a shorter class on Friday. In order to cover all the material in a two week span the class is an intense combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on work.

Professor Ballweg demonstrates 9 different bindings and the students simultaneously make each of these books. The students learn various bookmaking techniques through the process and then apply the techniques to their own work by creating two uniquely finished books.
